Leonid Meteor Shower!!

This weekend I'm going to watch annual Leonid Metor Shower.

Leonid meteor shower is associated with the comet Tempel-Tuttle. The Leonids get their name from the location of their radiant in the constellation Leo. In November Earth moves through the meteoroid stream of particles left from the passages of a comet. The Leonids are a fast moving stream which encounter the path of Earth and impact at 72 km/s. Leonids which are about 10 mm across have a mass of half a gram and are known for generating bright (apparent magnitude -1.5) meteors. An annual Leonid shower may deposit 12 or 13 tons of particles across the entire planet.

This year the peak of Leonids falls on November 17th 9,30UT, but we have chance to watch lot of meteors through the whole weekend!! My time is saturday before sunrise and after sunset till midnight.
I'm looking forward to it!!

Welcome!!

Hi!

My name is Jarek and this is my first post on a new blog about amateur astronomy.
I have been interested in astronomy for a few years, but recently my new hobby develops much faster. I'am about to buy some new equipment and learn something more than simple wikipedia informations.

Maybe that is because there is a lot of things to watch now. Solar maximum, 2 bright comets - C/2011 L4 PANSTARRS and of course C/2012 S1 ISON coming next march and november and of course a lot of meteor showers.

I think my blog won't be a mine of information for the Pro, but lot of new adepts of this awesome area of knowledge/science/hobby will find some good information and news told simply and understandable for everyone.

Follow my blog and You won't miss anything important on the sky.
